CUPE Alberta: Statement on International Women’s Day, March 8, 2015

CUPE Alberta President Marle Roberts issued the following statement in recognition of the 2015 International Women’s Day:Dear Sisters and Brothers,

March 8th is International Women’s Day.  Across Alberta, members will honour the accomplishments of women, renew our commitment to gender equality, and mourn our sisters who have lost their lives due to violence at home and in the workplace.

This is also an opportunity to celebrate the individuals and groups who have struggled to create a society that promotes diversity, tolerance, safety, social justice and equality across our province.

CUPE has a number of campaigns that address women’s rights as workers, community members and users of public services. We encourage you and your local to use International Women’s Day to promote and participate in these initiatives.

CUPE is founded on the principle that “union members are equal and deserve mutual respect at all levels. ” This must remain at the forefront of all the work we do, ever day.

On International Women’s Day, we applaud our sisters’ work, and we re-dedicate ourselves to gender equality.
