Dennis Mol takes over as President of CUPE 30

EDMONTON – Local 30 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) has a new President.

Dennis Mol, 40, a 21-year employee of Edmonton Parkland and Arena Operations departments, takes over after a surprising election win over Alex Grimaldi.  Local 30 represents employees of the City of Edmonton, as well as EPCOR, Northlands Park, Bon Accord and Thorsby.

Mol has been active in CUPE for four years, serving as Local 30’s chief steward and serving on Health and Safety committees for CUPE Alberta and CUPE National.

Improving the financial structure of the Local and improving the visibility of the union are Mol’s principal goals.

“First of all, I want to improve the Local’s finances – we have to change the way we think and do business,” said Mol. “I also want to build member activism, and improve the role of our Local’s committees.”

Mol also stated that he intends to be a very visible President.

“I want to do worksite visits every day,” said Mol. “I have a meeting with the City Manager this week and making that happen is my top priority.”
