CUPE Local 290 “Sock it to ’em” Campaign in its seventh year

LETHBRIDGE — Seven years and 26,000 pairs of new socks later, CUPE Local 290’s annual “sock it to ’em” campaign is showing no signs of slowing down.  Once again this holiday season, employees of Lethbridge and area schools are sponsoring a sock drive for local charities. The initiative, sponsored by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 290, draws in activity by school staff, parents, students and members of the public.

Gail Petrie (retired Head Caretaker) and Noel Covey, caretaker at Galbraith School in Lethbridge along with caretakers and maintenance staff of three school districts, Holy Spirit Catholic Schools, Lethbridge School District #51 and Palliser Regional Schools help in collecting all the socks.

The Local is building “Sock Mountain” and will present it to representatives of local charities – Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, Woods Homes, Harbour House and the Homeless Shelter – on Tuesday December 15 at 10 am.  Media are welcome to attend.
