EdmontonPublic School custodial workers will be presenting a Budget Brief to the Public School Trustees at their Public Board Meeting tonight calling for a Sustainable Cleaning Program to be implemented across the district. The union representing district custodial workers is asking the board to reconsider its current model of site based custodial services. As the district reviews its current delivery of Central Services and core services to schools custodial workers are asking Trustees to include them in the review.
The union believes that in order to effectively implement a Green Cleaning program in Edmonton’s Public Schools a centralized custodial department is needed to deliver cost effective green cleaning across the district.
“In order to meet LEED environmental standards for all our district schools and buildings we need to centralize custodial purchasing to make sure we are getting the best new environmentally responsible cleaning chemicals, equipment and supplies,” says Doug Luellman, President of CUPE Local 474.
LEED is the North American building standard for Green Buildings and the standard has been adopted by Alberta Infrastructure for its new P3 schools.
The Budget Brief will be presented this evening at the Public Board Meeting.
