Union calls off strike vote scheduled for Thursday

CALGARY – The Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 38 has called off a strike vote scheduled for tomorrow after it reached a deal with the City of Calgary late today.

Union President Peter Marsden said the union reached agreement with the City on wages and other issues, and that the union would be recommending acceptance by the 4,000 ‘inside’ workers represented by CUPE 38.

Marsden said the union will not release details of the agreement until it is ratified by its members, a process that he expects to be completed next week.

“I’m pleased we were able to get a deal without having to resort to job action,” said Marsden.
