Covenant health employees join CUPE

MEDICINE HAT – Employees of St. Joseph’s senior’s facility have voted 71% in favour of joining the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). St. Joseph’s is run by Covenant Health.

CUPE Alberta President Marle Roberts announced that the Personal Care Aides, Unit Clerks and maintenance staff have joined other Covenant Health staff in Edmonton as members of Canada’s largest union.

“St. Joseph’s is the latest in a series of organizing wins for CUPE in the province,” said Roberts. “These employees now have access to the best experts in negotiations, research and legal advice. They join a network of other Long Term Care employees across the country who know how to look after each other.”

Roberts says that with recent organizing victories, CUPE now has over 35,000 members in the province, higher than ever before.
