CUPE Alberta Equality Award

CUPE Locals in Alberta are invited to submit nominations for the CUPE Alberta Equality award.
The Equality award recognizes CUPE members whose work on equality issues has made a difference.

Nominate a member who has made a significant contribution to the area of health and safety in Alberta.
Alberta delegates elected at National Convention
CUPE Alberta President Marle Roberts was one of three delegates from Alberta elected to CUPE’s National Executive Board at the recent CUPE convention in Vancouver.
Roberts was re-elected to the position of General Vice President (BC & Alberta). In addition to Roberts, David Graham (CUPE 941 – St. Albert Municipal Workers) was elected as Regional Vice President (Alberta) and Gloria Lepine (CUPE 3550 – Edmonton Public School Support Workers) was elected as Diversity Vice President.

Alberta school bus driver killed on his first shift
GRIMSHAW – CUPE 4946 member Dellis Partridge was killed at work on Monday, February 2nd.
Partridge, 60, had worked as a bus driver previously. He had just been hired as a casual driver and was on his first shift with the Peace River School Division when his bus was involved in a head on collision with a semi truck near Grimshaw.
Fourteen students were passengers on the bus, all sustained injuries, as did the truck driver. There were no other fatalities.
CUPE Alberta President Marle Roberts expressed her sorrow and best condolences to Mr. Partridge’s family.
“It is always a tragedy when someone dies on the job,” said Roberts. “In this case, it impacts Mr. Partridge’s family, other staff and students in the school division, and all members of the community.”
“On behalf of CUPE Alberta, I want Mr. Partridge’s family to know they are in our thoughts and prayers.”
