Committees

CUPE Alberta maintains a number of standing committees to address topics of concern to members. These committees range in size from 5 to 10 members, plus at least one Executive member and staff representative.  Whenever possible, meetings are scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays rather than on workdays.

Alberta Education Employees (AEEC)

AEEC works to plan bargaining strategy, public relations campaigns and government lobby efforts, as well as acting as an avenue for education locals to keep each other informed of their activities. Learn more

Alberta Health Employees (AHEC)

AHEC works to plan bargaining strategy, public relations campaigns and government lobby efforts, as well as acting as an avenue for health care locals to keep each other informed of their activities. Learn more

Alberta Indigenous Council

The Alberta Indigenous Council promotes and defends the rights of all Indigenous workers in our union and in our communities.

Alberta Library Employees Committee (ALEC)

ALEC works to plan bargaining strategy, public relations campaigns and government lobby efforts, as well as acting as an avenue for library locals to keep each other informed of their activities.

Alberta Municipal Employees (AMEC)
AMEC works to plan bargaining strategy, public relations campaigns and government lobby efforts, as well as acting as an avenue for municipal locals to keep each other informed of their activities.
Anti-Privatization and Political Action Committee
The committee shall use political action and all other means available to it to prevent loss of union jobs, recover union jobs lost to contracting out, and educate CUPE members in combating contracting out and privatization. Learn more
Communication, Technology and Literacy committee

This committee promotes literacy initiatives and actions within CUPE Alberta, our workplaces and society. and encourages CUPE, employers and government to use clear language.

Environment and Health and Safety committee

The committee promotes the improvement of Health & Safety conditions in all Alberta workplaces through education of workers and management, better legislation and regulation, vigorous enforcement of safety rules and the promotion of a safety culture in all workplaces.

Equality and Justice committee

This committee works on the issues of equality, fairness, justice, and dignity for all people impacted by bigotry, unfair treatment, or discrimination. The committee works towards achieving those goals within CUPE, the labour movement, our workplaces and Alberta.

International Solidarity committee

The fight for workers’ rights is global and as CUPE members we have a responsibility to learn about and support the struggles of workers around the world.

Pension and Benefits

The committee supports pension and benefits knowledge and understanding across the province. We do this work by supporting education, training and working with locals to identify opportunities for improvement in collective bargaining.

Women’s Committee

The committee focuses on issues faced by women in the workforce, the union and day-to-day lives. They support women through education and skills development to increase the number of women in leadership roles.
