Union to vote on deal Thursday
LETHBRIDGE – A deal has been reached which may avert a strike at the Livingstone Range School Division.
D’Arcy Lanovaz, Alberta President of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) said a settlement was reached with the School District and the deal will be put to a vote this Thursday.
CUPE represents over 100 non-teaching staff at the school district.
The union and the school district have been negotiating all summer to reach a deal. In June, employees voted 88% to strike. The school district responded by locking out employees, although that was done during the summer when most employees were laid off.
CUPE Alberta President D’Arcy Lanovaz said that if CUPE members vote for the deal, next weeks school opening will happen as usual.
“If our members decide to support the deal, it’s back to school as usual, and that’s what everyone wants.”
The union said it would not release details of the deal until it was presented to its members on Thursday.
